Guy Mattiolo is an Italian fashion designer who began his career at the age of 19 when his father provided him with financial support to open a boutique in Rome. Guy Mattiolo had no formal training as a fashion designer, but his work was distinguished by his attention to detail. In particular, the buttons on his clothes, made of exquisite materials and often in the form of small sculptures, are a characteristic element of Mattiolo’s style. He carefully researches the design of the buttons for each new collection.
Mattiolo’s success with his first collection brought him to the catwalks of Paris and Milan, where top models of the 1980s and 1990s showed off his unique clothes. His designs are colorful, meticulously sewn, and feature unusual luxurious materials such as platinum threads, gemstones, and thousands of tiny gold balls.
Mattiolo has dressed celebrities from Cher to Diana Ross and Pink. Mattiolo had the honor of creating four ecclesiastical robes (copes) for Pope John Paul II in 1996. In 2000, Mattiolo coined a neologism to describe his new designs: prêt-à-couture, a synthesis of the luxury of haute couture and artisanal production.
Perfumery has been part of the Gai Mattiolo range since 1997, when his signature fragrance for women was launched. Gai Mattiolo fragrances are now produced in collaboration with ITF Cosmetics. In 1998, the brand’s first perfume for men was launched.

Designer Gai Mattiolo’s very first perfume was created in 1997, and his most recent one was in 2009. Gai Mattiolo fragrances were created in collaboration with perfumers Jean-Claude Delville, Maurice Roucel, Alberto Morillas, Mark Buxton, Bernard Ellena, Alain Astori, Beatrice Piquet and IFF.
